Upland Season

Upland hunting season officially begins at the club the first Friday morning in November and continues through the end of January. During this season members will have excellent opportunities to harvest legal species of upland game bird and cotton-tail rabbits. Legal hunting hours during upland season are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Saturday unless otherwise stated.

Great planning and hard work has produced excellent habitat at the club. Fence rows and brush clusters hold great promise for experienced and novice hunters alike. It's tough to beat a crisp fall morning with a good dog on point; the unmistakable sounds of a launch cackle followed quickly by the sight, sound and smell of a well placed shot. There is nothing any better than sharing that experience with a friend or a youngster.

A full color reference map is posted in the breezeway of the clubhouse that clearly illustrates all legal upland and waterfowl hunting areas. All of our legal hunting fields are numbered. Many of our perimeter fields are currently being managed utilizing principles and techniques as set forth by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and outlined in our current Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) agreement.

Our gun ranges will be closed every day except Wednesday and Sunday during upland game season. Hunting behind the gun ranges at any time on Wednesday during upland season is strictly prohibited! Hunting behind the archery shoot area or in field # 6 east of the big lake is permitted on Wednesday. No Sunday hunting is allowed at GCF&G except for board approved waterfowl hunting.

This year's scheduled pheasant release dates will be posted on this page, in the monthly newsletter, and announced at the general membership meetings as the season draws nearer. Members who are planning to hunt this upland season need to remember that unlicensed non-hunting members and non-members, licensed or otherwise, are not permitted to accompany you in the field.

All upland hunters are also required to meet or exceed the minimum hunter orange requirement at GCF&G while they are in the field. They are further reminded they must sign in on the sign-in sheet located in the breezeway of the clubhouse before they start hunting and must also sign out after they are done hunting and register any game they successfully harvested.

Harvest information is used to evaluate the success of our conservation programs and the need for any changes to them. The date of our annual youth hunt is subject to change so members are urged to refer to the Youth Activities page of this site for updated info regarding the date and time of the event. Members are urged to familiarize themselves with the club ground rules regarding upland hunting before they begin.

*Dog training on club grounds is strictly prohibited at any time including Sundays, from the date of the annual youth hunt or the opening day of upland season, which ever occurs first, throughout the remainder of upland game season.

The Conservation committee would like to thank everyone in advance for their cooperation and wish everyone a safe and successful upland season! Refer any inquires regarding upland season or conservation to the E-mail address listed below: conservation@gcfng.com
