Waterfowl hunting is also allowed at the club. Dates for waterfowl
hunting at the big lake will correspond with the dates set by the
U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. In order to hunt waterfowl at the
club a member must have a permit issued and signed by our conservation
chairman. Waterfowl hunting permits will only be issued to club
members and will be done through a lottery drawing prior to the
start of the early waterfowl season.
To obtain a permit to hunt waterfowl at the club, members must
attend the August membership meeting. Upon conclusion of that meeting,
a permit drawing will be held and Members who are fortunate enough
to be drawn during the goose drawing will be permitted to bring
(2) other member hunters with him or her on the dates he or she
is permitted to hunt. Members must present a current Ohio Hunting
license to be eligible for the permit drawing.
Two permits will be drawn for each week of the waterfowl season.
Hunting is restricted to the area immediately surrounding the big
lake and in field #6, located to the east of the lake. GCF&G Waterfowl
permits are only transferable by contacting the conservation chairman
at least 48 hours prior to the first hunting day scheduled. Waterfowl
season hours will be determined annually by the Ohio Division of
Wildlife.
A yellow sawhorse, (pictured on the right), will be placed across
the road leading to the big lake from the clubhouse when waterfowl
hunting is taking place. When the sawhorse is in place members are
asked in the interest of safety to stay away from the big lake until
the barrier has been removed. Fishing is available most of the time
at the small pond adjacent to the campground just off the main road.
Members must sign in on the sign-in sheet located in the breezeway
of the clubhouse before they begin hunting and must sign out registering
any waterfowl harvested before they leave the grounds. Steel or
non-toxic shot shells must be used.
Members who are hunting waterfowl are not permitted to harvest
upland game while they are engaged in and signed in as waterfowl
hunting. Please refer to your ground rule for a further explanation.
** A reminder to all members that hunting squirrel, deer or
turkey is not permitted at the club.
